Alex Welch's lawyer has told E! News: 'I have engaged in discussions with Demi Lovato's attorney. I'm fairly confident we will be able to resolve these issues.' Demi's rep: 'Demi's attorneys have had an initial discussion with Mr. Karpel. They are exploring the possibility of an amicable resolution of this matter. We do not plan on making further public comments during this process.'
Discussions began this morning after Karpel was contacted by a member of Demi's team. Yesterday Karpel said he would file suit against Demi 'in the next seven to 10 days' for alleged assault & battery, apparently got Demi's attention.Karpel claims that Alex suffered lasting physical damage as well, noting that Welch had consulted a plastic surgeon.
Alex told Inside Edition: 'Demi walked up to me and punched me, the definition of a sucker punch.' Alex said the altercation is what prompted Demi to abruptly drop out of the tour last month to enter rehab.
Alex: 'It was really fast, she walked away as fast as she could. I kind of fell back into my seat.. My face swelled up; I had to put ice on it.' Alex said that she can understand why Demi may have been in turmoil: 'She’s in a hard industry, trying to figure out who she is.' On getting an apology: 'I don’t want to force her to, but it would be nice. It would mean a lot.'
